Eating a cold sandwich does not taste delicious, nor is it good for your health. No one wants to throw away their favorite sandwich. So, you are probably looking for the best way to reheat leftover sandwiches. If you have an air fryer, you might be wondering how to reheat a sandwich in an air fryer.

Air fryers are a great kitchen appliance to reheat almost all kinds of food. You can easily reheat your leftover sandwich in a few minutes in an air fryer. However, to get the best taste and texture from a sandwich, you need to know the right way to reheat it.

Air fryers are pretty new when it comes to kitchen appliances. So, I’m sure this is a very unconventional method of heating sandwiches for many. So, to help you out, in this article, I will tell you how I reheat different types of sandwiches in an air fryer. Before that, let us understand why air fryers are great at reheating sandwiches.

Are Air Fryers Good For Reheating Sandwiches?

Air fryers are an excellent addition to a kitchen. You can cook or reheat almost all kinds of recipes in an air fryer. Thus, it is also one of the best options for reheating different sandwiches. It reheats the sandwich quickly but does not harden the bread like a microwave.

Before using the air fryer, I used to reheat leftover sandwiches in the microwave. A microwave reheats sandwiches super-fast, but it can dry out the bread. Moreover, the vegetables inside the sandwich often turned soggy. Using a microwave to reheat a sandwich felt really frustrating because I was never sure how the reheated sandwich turned out.

After getting an air fryer, I used it to reheat all kinds of leftover foods. Reheating leftover sandwiches in the air fryer is as fast as in the microwave. However, the hot air of the air fryer does not dry out the bread when you manage it properly. It brings nice crispiness to the bread, which adds to the taste of the sandwich.

The same effect can be found using an oven, but it takes much more time to reheat sandwiches than air fryers. Besides, reheating a small amount of leftover food in an oven seems like a waste of time.

An air fryer is fast and easy to use. Also, foods reheated in an air fryer get a good taste, crispiness, and they never get soggy. After using an air fryer, you will enjoy reheating not only sandwiches but also other foods in it.

How To Reheat Sandwiches In Air Fryers?

People often complain about slices of bread in sandwiches getting too crispy or the cheese in grilled sandwiches becoming too sticky after reheating in air fryers. These problems are often not the fault of the air fryer. In fact, it is the problem of not choosing the correct temperature, timing, and process for different types of sandwiches.

I have been reheating sandwiches in my air fryer for years. Hence, I understand how to set a suitable temperature and time to reheat leftovers to keep their taste and texture close to that of freshly cooked sandwiches.

Today, I will share how I reheat some of the most common sandwiches, like plain sandwiches, subway sandwiches, and grilled cheese sandwiches.

How To Reheat Leftover Sandwiches?

If you want to reheat your leftover sandwiches quickly and easily, use an air fryer. You will get crispy and tasty sandwiches in just a few minutes.

Here is how I reheat plain sandwiches with a moderate amount of filling:

Step 1: Preparing for the Reheating

If the leftover sandwiches contain cheese and mayonnaise, you should place parchment on the air fryer basket. It will keep the drippings from making the air fryer messy.

Before placing the leftover sandwich in the basket, you can use some toothpicks to keep the slices of bread together.

Step 2: Loading the Air Fryer Basket

Put the leftover sandwiches on the parchment in the basket. Depending on the size of the air fryer and leftover sandwiches, you have to arrange the leftovers in a single layer. Do not stock up the basket.

If you have small sandwiches, you can place two side by side. Make sure they do not overlap or touch each other. The hot air needs space to move around and through the food to reheat them evenly.

Step 3: Reheating the leftover Sandwiches

After placing the sandwiches in the air fryer basket, reheat them for 4 to 5 minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit, depending on the size of the sandwich.

After two minutes of reheating, remove the basket and turn over the sandwiches to make sure they get evenly heated. Then heat again.

After 4 minutes, check the temperature of the sandwich with a food thermometer. It should reach over 165 degrees F. If you do not have a food thermometer, use a toothpick or butter knife to feel the heat. You can take the sandwich out of the air fryer if they are warm enough to touch.

Your leftover sandwich will turn crispy on the outside, and the cheese will melt nicely. Serve or eat the sandwich with your favorite sauce. Also, do not forget to remove the toothpick from the sandwich.

How To Reheat Subway Sandwich In Air Fryer

Preparing subway sandwhiches

Subway sandwiches contain different types of fillings in good amounts. Therefore, you have to try a different approach to reheating leftover sandwiches.

Here is how you can reheat a leftover subway sandwich:

Step 1: Place the Subway Sandwich in Air Fryer

Place parchment on the air fryer basket so that it can collect the drips from the subway sandwich. Then put the subway sandwich on the parchment.

Now, you need to avoid getting the top bun of the sandwich from getting burned. When you place the sandwich on the parchment, remove the top bun.

Step 2: Reheating the Subway Sandwich

Reheat the fillings and bottom part of the sandwich at medium heat (180 to 200 degrees F.) for 2 to 3 minutes. After 3 minutes, check the temperature of the sandwich with a food thermometer. It should be above 165 degrees F.

Step 3: Adding the Top Bun

After that, add the top bun and reheat for another 30 seconds.

Thus, you can get a reheated subway sandwich without burning the bread. You will have a better texture and taste of the sandwich reheated in an air fryer than in a microwave.

How To Reheat Grilled Cheese Sandwiches

Grilled cheese and grilled cheese sandwiches are my absolute favorites. Sometimes, I end up making more than I can eat. So, to serve or eat a snack later, I use my air fryer to reheat them.

Since the bread for grilled cheese is already toasted, you have to be careful about not getting it burned. Reheat them for a shorter time than the other sandwiches mentioned before.

Here is what you can do:

  1. Place the grilled cheese in the air fryer basket.
  2. Reheat it for 2 to 3 minutes at 320 degrees F.
  3. Halfway through reheating, turn over the grilled cheese for even heat distribution.
  4. Then reheat for the rest of the time.
  5. Enjoy crispy and cheesy grilled cheese!

However, if you are reheating a large grilled cheese sandwich, increase the time to 4 minutes. Reheat at 320 degrees F.
