Fresh homemade curry sauce creates an exquisite flavor. However, it takes time to collect the fresh ingredients and make the curry sauce. So, it is not always possible to make it whenever you want. You will find pre-made curry sauce in the market. But should you eat pre-made curry sauce?

Using pre-made curry sauce to prepare food saves a lot of time. Although they do not have the fresh taste of the homemade sauce, they still have a nice aroma and taste. However, the problem is the saturated fat, sugar, salt, and preservatives in them.

Pre-made curry sauces are widely available for their high demand. If you are concerned about the ingredients of store-bought curry sauce and how they taste, keep reading to learn more!

What Are The Ingredients In Pre-made Curry Sauce?

The common ingredients in homemade and pre-made curry sauces are garlic, onion, ginger, and different spices. Turmeric and curry powder are common in Indian curry sauce. Curry sauce is cooked in butter, oil, or ghee.

The pre-made curry sauces in the market mostly follow the recipe of Indian and Thai curry sauce. They have different flavors. People can choose a curry sauce depending on what type of curry they intend to cook.

You can find the list of used ingredients in the jar or bottle of the curry sauce. The most common ingredients of Indian curry sauce are dried onion, tomato, cumin, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, garlic, turmeric, paprika, salt, cream, butter, oil, ghee, and other spices and herbs. The Indian hot curry sauce has dried red chilies and some extra spices for a heated flavor.

Pre-made Thai curry sauce has some similar ingredients to some of its unique ingredients. In the list, you will find red curry paste (made from dried red chilies), ginger, garlic, onion, vegetable oil, lemongrass, kaffir lime peel, dehydrated coconut milk, salt, and some other spices and herbs.

To enhance the taste, manufacturers often add sugar, modified starch, citric acid, artificial flavor, and sometimes Monosodium glutamate (MSG). Also, they add preservatives and artificial colors to give a fresh look at their pre-made curry sauce.

Should You Eat Pre-Made Curry Sauce?

First, the pre-made curry sauce is not fresh like homemade curry sauce. The homemade curry sauce is used right after it is made. But pre-made curry sauces are manufactured and stored with preservatives. Hence, should be avoided if possible.

Besides, many pre-made curry sauces have too much salt, sugar, and fat. Hence, they have a lot of calories. Indian Tikka masala curry sauce contains the most fat as they are prepared with cream and butter.

All these extra preservatives, salt, sugars, and saturated fat can cause heart disease. Too much sodium and salt cause high blood pressure and even stroke. Moreover, consuming the extra calories can lead to weight gain.

Therefore, you should control the use of premade curry sauce in your recipes. Using them occasionally is fine but regular use of premade curry sauce is bad for your health.

Then again, it is a matter of taste. Premade curry sauce is made tasty using additives and extra sodium. These may appeal to your taste buds, but they do not give the fresh, spicy, and earthly flavor of homemade curry sauce. So, you should make some homemade curry sauce from time to time to enjoy the authentic flavor of curries.

How Can You Improve The Taste Of Premade Curry Sauce?

So, you bought some premade curry sauce, but you dislike its taste. Now, what can you do about it? I often mix some fresh spices and herbs to enhance the taste of the store-bought curry sauce. What you are going to mix depends on what taste you prefer.

For example, a yellow curry sauce can be spicy, but it may not have the level of chili you want. In this case, you can add some red chili or red chili paste to the curry.

Also, if you want to add some flavor to your pre-made curry sauce, you have to add some fresh ingredients. I always cut some fresh onion and garlic to give a fresh flavor to the curry. You can also add some fresh tomatoes, chili, and extra spices like cumin powder and coriander. These spices will boost the flavor of the sauce amazingly.

Uses Of Pre Made Curry Sauce

Do you have the time to make curry sauce from scratch? Then use some premade curry sauce. You can find a wide range of curry sauces in stores. If you cannot find your preferred flavor in the store, you can always find them online.

From simple butter chicken curry sauce to Tikka masala, you can buy any flavor. Even curry sauce for vegetables is available. If you prefer Thai curry, get yourself a super-hot Thai red curry sauce. If you have not used premade curry sauce before, you may want to know ways to use curry sauce. So, here are some ways I like to use it:

  • Curries: Cook any of your favorite curries with matching curry sauce. If you want to eat some butter chicken but do not know which spices and herbs go with it, use some chicken butter curry sauce. You can do the same with Thai recipes. This way, you do not have to gather everything and save time.
  • Soup: Thai curry sauce adds excellent flavors to the soup. As the premade curry sauce has coconut, you can enjoy some Thai coconut curry sauce at home.
  • Noodles: Give your noodles some extra spiciness with premade curry sauce. You can also enjoy some creamy pasta with butter curry sauce.
  • Salad: Premade chicken curry sauces work as amazing salad dressers. You can create a layer of textures by mixing premade curry sauce in a green salad, cold noodle salad, or raw salads. To balance the flavor, I always add some vinegar or lime juice to the mix.
  • Seafood Curry: You can even cook some seafood curry with premade curry sauce. It is even better when your premade curry sauce has some garam masala in it.
